Job Responsibilities
- Transport Goods: Safely transport freight over long distances, including cross-border routes between Canada and the United States.
- Route Planning: Plan and follow the most efficient routes while adhering to delivery schedules.
- Vehicle Inspection: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in optimal condition.
- Load and Unload: Assist with the loading and unloading of goods as required, ensuring proper securing of cargo.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and other required documentation.
- Compliance: Adhere to all federal, provincial, and local regulations, including hours of service, weight limits, and safety standards.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications/Skills
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Must hold a valid Class 1 (or equivalent) CDL with a clean driving record.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a long-haul truck driver preferred.
- Knowledge of Regulations: Familiarity with transportation regulations, including hours of service and cross-border requirements.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle unexpected situations on the road and make quick decisions.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to handle the physical demands of long-haul driving, including sitting for extended periods.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Preferred but not mandatory.
- Driving Experience: At least 2 years of experience driving long-haul routes.
- Additional Certifications: Certification in air brakes or other specialized equipment is an asset.
